Smile

“Captured in Camden Town, London on May 20, 2014, this photograph represents one of the countless moments I’ve experienced while navigating city streets, guided by graffiti as my landmarks. This particular piece brought an instant ‘smile’ to my face – a playful mural perched atop a row of terraces, with a train line just beyond. I first spotted the ‘Smile’ roller from a passing train, and it has since become a small but memorable landmark in my urban explorations. Though I often try to incorporate the movement and energy of train lines in my street art photography, in this instance, I was drawn to the character of the old, hard-surfaced court in the foreground. Together, they create a contrast that highlights both the grit and charm of the city’s hidden spaces.”
